Dr. Dan van den Hoek is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), School of Health. He holds a PhD in Health Science (Exercise and Nutrition) from Deakin University (2018), alongside a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Exercise Science. Prior to UniSC, he was a lecturer and program coordinator at Australian Catholic University. His research focuses on strength adaptation across the lifespan, para-powerlifting performance analysis, and exercise’s role in managing psychosocial health. He consults for World Para Powerlifting and is an editor for PeerJ Life and Environment.

Research Interests: Strength sports performance analysis (powerlifting/para-powerlifting), factors predicting competitive success, exercise for mental health, and sports-related concussion. Teaching and Projects: Coordinates the Bachelor of Sports Studies program. Supervises honors and HDR projects on topics like mental toughness in ultra-endurance athletes and para-sports concussion. Active in interdisciplinary research with biomedical science and psychology.
Professional Roles: Consultant to World Para Powerlifting, accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), and member of Exercise and Sports Science Australia.
