Dr. Christopher Latella is a Lecturer at Edith Cowan University (ECU), serving as course coordinator for the Master of Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning) program and head of the Neurophysiology Research Laboratory within the School of Medical and Health Sciences. He also leads neurophysiology research in the Centre for Precision Health at ECU. With a PhD from Deakin University (2017), Dr. Latella previously held positions as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow (2018-2021), Lecturer at Deakin College, and various casual academic/research roles at Deakin University and Victoria University.

Dr. Latella's research focuses on neuromuscular physiology of fatigue and muscle strength adaptation in athletic and clinical populations, strength training and sports performance, motor unit physiology, and brain and neuro-stimulation techniques. His work bridges basic neurophysiology with practical applications in strength sports and clinical rehabilitation. He has made significant contributions to understanding powerlifting biomechanics, neural adaptations to resistance training, and applications of neurostimulation in movement disorders.
His extensive publication record (over 50 articles since 2011) demonstrates consistent productivity across multiple domains of exercise science. Recent work shows a growing focus on clinical applications of neurophysiology, particularly in Parkinson's disease, osteoarthritis, and other conditions affecting motor control. His research integrates advanced methodologies including transcranial magnetic stimulation, functional near-infrared spectroscopy, and tensiomyography to investigate neural mechanisms of movement.

Dr. Latella actively supervises multiple PhD and Master's students across diverse research areas including neuromuscular adaptations, injury rehabilitation, and sport-specific training. His research program is supported by substantial grants including projects on neural motor drive impairments, human motor impairment in long COVID, and motoneuron function in chronic fatigue syndrome. As head of the Neurophysiology Research Laboratory, he oversees a dynamic research team investigating the neural control of movement in both healthy and clinical populations, with particular emphasis on translating basic science findings into practical applications for athletes and patients.
