Dr. Dan Torre is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, Australia. His research and teaching span animation theory, cultural studies, plant biology, and process philosophy. He supervises PhD/Masters research projects focusing on animation's intersection with culture, history, and technology. Notable supervision topics include illusionary 3D animation frameworks, minimalistic animation definitions, and animated documentaries reclaiming historical narratives.
Teaching interests include animation, cinema, radio, comics, interactive animation, and critical studies of plants/nature. His research outputs include books like Orchid (2023), Cactus: The World's Mysterious Plant (2019), and Australian Animation (2018), alongside journal articles exploring animation cognition and material-based artistic processes.
