Dr Dan Shipley is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. His research focuses on convective turbulence, upscale impacts of small-scale atmospheric features, and parametrization techniques for numerical weather prediction.
- Current Research: Parametrization of convective turbulence in the convection grey zone (MORPH project, NERC/Met Office ParaChute programme)
- Past Research: Multi-fluid modeling of idealized convection (PhD work) and TerraMaris project on the Maritime Continent's climate role
His work combines theoretical analysis, numerical modeling, and parametrization development to improve climate simulations. Recent publications emphasize multi-fluid approaches for convection modeling and MJO-driven convection dynamics over the Maritime Continent.
Dr Shipley has supervised PhD, MSc, and BSc projects while serving as a classroom demonstrator for courses like Atmosphere and Ocean Dynamics, Boundary Layer Meteorology, and Fluid Dynamics of the Atmosphere and Oceans.
