Dan O'Reilly serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Music within the College of Humanities at Coastal Carolina University, where he has taught since 2001. His instruction spans Saxophone Studio, Saxophone Ensemble, Songwriting, American Popular Music, and History of Jazz courses.
His educational credentials include:
- M.A. in Music Composition from Long Island University/C.W. Post (1988)
- B.F.A. in Music Education from Long Island University/C.W. Post (1986)
Mr. O'Reilly's research integrates performance practice with musicology, focusing on Jazz improvisation, Popular Music evolution, and Saxophone pedagogy. His work bridges academic study with professional artistry, informed by decades of stage experience including collaborations with legends like B.B. King, the Temptations, and Lou Rawls. He examines cultural intersections in American music through historical and practical lenses.
As an active performer, he created and starred in “Blues Train – The All American Rock & Roll Journey” for House of Blues and Disneyworld. He leads “The Jazz Standard” quartet and performs original compositions as a singer-songwriter. Previously, he served as faculty advisor for CCU's Catholic campus ministry for over a decade.
