Professor Dan Michman is a leading Holocaust historian affiliated with Bar-Ilan University (Israel) and serving as Director and John Najmann Chairman of Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Research in Jerusalem. His research focuses on Holocaust history, Jewish ghettos, Nazi occupation policies, and the controversial role of Jewish Councils (Judenräte) during the Nazi era.
Michman’s work challenges long-held interpretations, such as in his monograph The Emergence of Jewish Ghettos during the Holocaust (2011), which reanalyzes the rationality and function of ghettos. His lecture at Uppsala University’s Hugo Valentin Lecture series (March 6, 2014) explored the establishment and implementation of Jewish Councils across Europe and North Africa, examining their alignment with Nazi interests.
The lecture was supported by the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and the Wenner-Gren Foundations, reflecting his prominence in Holocaust research and memory studies.
