Damien Callahan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on muscle plasticity, aging, and the interplay between metabolic and contractile functions in skeletal muscle.
- Ph.D. in Kinesiology, University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2011)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Vermont College of Medicine
His work examines age-related changes in muscle fatigability and contractile performance using cellular and computational approaches. Studies span nemaline myopathy interventions, fatigue-induced stiffness modulation, and myosin isoform adaptations.
Recent publications highlight sex-specific responses to fatigue, age-related cross-bridge kinetics, and molecular mechanisms in muscle dysfunction. His lab employs single-fiber analysis, computational modeling, and in vivo assessments to test clinical rehabilitation interventions.
