Professor Damian O'Doherty is a leading academic in Management and Organization Studies, currently serving as Professor of Management and Organization at the University of Liverpool since 2021. He holds honorary roles at the Alliance Manchester Business School (University of Manchester) and Copenhagen Business School (visiting professor). As group director of research, he drives initiatives in organizational and employee well-being. His work bridges critical management studies, ethnography, and environmental studies, focusing on human-nonhuman relations and sustainable practices.
Research Interests: Damian’s research interrogates the boundaries of organization, emphasizing non-human agency in landscapes like farming, permaculture, and community governance. He integrates anthropological and philosophical insights to explore themes such as social movements, resilience, and climate change through ethnographic film. His recent work challenges conventional anthropogenic limits in organizational theory.
Professional Activities: He serves as Senior Editor for Organization Studies and editorial board member for Academy of Management Learning & Education. He chairs research committees and organizes conferences, including the 2024 Organization Studies Summer Workshop in Greece. His editorial leadership includes past roles as Editor-in-Chief of Culture and Organization (2010–2013).
Teaching: He coordinates modules such as Business and Management as a Social Science and teaches Organizational Theory: Behaviour, Power, and Politics at Work at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Awards: His 2018 monograph Reconstructing Organization: The Loungification of Society was nominated for the EGOS Book of the Year award. His work has been recognized for advancing critical approaches to organizational studies.
