Professor Dallal Stevens is a leading academic specializing in Refugee Law and Policy at the University of Warwick’s School of Law. She holds multiple roles, including Deputy Head of School and Director of Academic Staff Development. Her research focuses on asylum law, forced migration, and human rights, with a particular emphasis on the Middle East and European policy frameworks. Stevens has published over 50 peer-reviewed works and authored a seminal book, UK Asylum Law and Policy: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives (2004). She was a Leverhulme Research Fellow (2017–2019), examining refugee protection in the Middle East.
Stevens’ research has been supported by grants from DFiD, the Norwegian Research Council, the ESRC, and others. She serves as Book Reviews Editor for the International Journal of Refugee Law and Associate Editor of the Journal of Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Law. Her teaching includes modules on International Refugee Law and Critical Perspectives on Forced Migration.
Her work challenges traditional legal approaches to refugee protection, emphasizing the intersection of law, identity, and policy. Key themes include the legal status of displaced populations, regional protection frameworks, and the ethical implications of data-driven humanitarianism.
