Dalia Abdelfattah

Dr. Dalia Abdelfattah is an Associate Professor at the Department of Energy and Technology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and Director of Studies for the Sustainable Systems for Food, Energy, and Biomaterials research school. She holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from Alexandria University, Egypt, with a background in Agricultural Engineering. Her research focuses on environmental impacts of renewable energy systems, particularly biofuels for Arctic marine shipping, sustainable biomass utilization, and climate change mitigation strategies.

Dr. Abdelfattah is a core member of the Bio4Energy program’s System Analysis and Bioeconomy platform, addressing bio-refinery processes and biomaterials. She leads projects funded by FORMAS, Arcum, and others, exploring system analysis for Arctic sustainability, sustainable pulp and paper industry practices, and climate-resilient agricultural systems. Notable projects include analyzing forest-based biofuels for Arctic shipping and assessing vegetable oil biodiesel production in cold climates.

Her research interests span climate change impacts, eco-friendly production systems, and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies. She has published extensively on topics like biofuel sustainability, waste management in industries, and adaptation strategies for Egyptian agriculture. Dr. Abdelfattah actively organizes seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings, emphasizing science communication.

Key collaborations include work with Umeå University (Sweden), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology (Thailand), and Alexandria University (Egypt). Her expertise includes LCA application in climate policy, cleaner production, and sustainable development. She has received grants for projects on Arctic sustainability communication and circular economy initiatives involving biochar composites.
