Prof. Daleen Millard is the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). She holds an LLD from the University of Johannesburg (2006), alongside degrees from the University of Pretoria (B Iuris, LLB, LLM) and a diploma in Insolvency Law. Her academic career includes roles at Vista University, the University of Pretoria, and a 13-year tenure as a professor at the University of Johannesburg, specializing in tort law, contract law, and insurance law. She has authored influential texts such as Modern Insurance Law in South Africa and co-authored The FAIS Act Explained, and contributes regularly to journals like De Jure and Tydskrif vir die Suid-Afrikaanse Reg.
Her research focuses on insurance law compliance, social security, and the intersection of public and private law, particularly in areas like disability insurance, microinsurance, and consumer protection. She developed the 'TCF Integrator' platform to assist insurers with compliance. Prof. Millard has presented at international conferences in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, addressing topics like microinsurance frameworks, fairness in financial services, and cross-border legal challenges. Her work emphasizes balancing regulatory demands with equitable outcomes for consumers and policyholders.
Her academic output spans over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, covering insurance law, social security, and legal reform. She has been a practicing advocate and remains active in legal education, contributing to conferences and seminars globally. Her research often bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical applications in South African and comparative law contexts.
