Dagmawi Woubshet is the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Endowed Term Associate Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences. He holds affiliations with the English Department and serves on editorial boards for Transition and formerly Callaloo. His research bridges African American, LGBTQIA+, and African studies, with expertise in 20th-century literature, comparative race studies, and visual culture.
Education: PhD in History of American Civilization from Harvard University (advisor not specified), BA in Political Science and History from Duke University. Prior to UPenn, he taught at Cornell University where he was recognized as one of 'The 10 Best Professors'.
Research focuses on intersections of race, sexuality, and transnational cultural production. Current projects include translating Sebhat Gebre Egziabher's Amharic novel The Seventh Angel, a James Baldwin analysis, and lyric essays. Recent exhibitions include curating Julie Mehretu: The Addis Show (2016).
