Dagmar Hoffmann is a Professor for Media and Communication at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Siegen, Germany. She leads subprojects B06 and MGK and is actively involved in research related to media sociology, gender media studies, and digital practices. Her work bridges media education, cultural sociology, and political empowerment.
Education:
- Diploma in Sociology, Free University of Berlin (1994)
- Doctorate from the Faculty of Philosophy at Chemnitz University of Technology (2000)
- Habilitation at the Department of Education and Social Sciences, University of Münster (2009)
Research Focus: Hoffmann’s research explores media socialization, digital identity formation, and political participation in the context of social media. She investigates image-based media practices, youth culture, and gender dynamics in digital spaces, alongside cultural sociology of the body and empowerment through media literacy.
Professional Roles: Since 2011, she has held editorial roles as co-editor of the Journal of Sociology of Education and Socialization and Media and Aging. She serves on advisory boards for journals like Society - Individual - Socialization and Diskurs Childhood and Youth Research, and is chair of the Examination Board for Media Studies at Siegen.
Teaching: Hoffmann teaches courses in gender media studies, digital media practices, and cultural sociology at both bachelor’s and master’s levels. Recent seminars include topics on empathy, artificial creativity, and outrage communication in media.
