Professor Dagmar Divjak is a Professorial Research Fellow in Cognitive Linguistics and Language Cognition at the University of Birmingham's Department of Modern Languages. She holds a PhD from KU Leuven (2004) and has held academic positions at the University of Sheffield (2006–2019), where she was promoted to Chair in 2018. Her research focuses on cognitive bases of linguistic patterns, bilingualism, and optimizing language learning through experimental methods.
Education: BA (KULeuven, 1995), MA (KULeuven, 1997), Academic Teacher Training (KULeuven, 1997), Specialization in Polish Language and Culture (UJ Krakow, 1998), PhD (KULeuven, 2004). Key roles include Director of the Centre for Linguistic Research and leader of the Out of Our Minds team. She established the HumLab experimental facility and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Cognitive Linguistics.
Research interests include cognitive foundations of language, bilingual acquisition, neurolinguistic measures of language knowledge, and interdisciplinary methods combining experimental psychology with computational modeling. Recent work emphasizes physiological correlates of language proficiency and pedagogical applications of learning simulations.
