Dr. D Ferrett is an Associate Professor of Music, Sound and Culture at Falmouth University, serving as Research Lead for the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA). She leads the BA (Hons) Popular Music and BA (Hons) Music degrees and teaches across undergraduate programs focusing on music, culture, virtuality, and futurist philosophy. Her interdisciplinary research explores intersections of gender, technology, mythology, and the environment through sound and voice studies.

Research Interests: D’s work centers on dark sound, examining power dynamics, oppression, and sonic potentialities through deep listening and interdisciplinary methods. Current projects include ‘Dark Kernow’ (Cornwall’s gender-myth-environment nexus) and ‘Voices on the Edge’ (amplifying women+ sound-makers in Cornwall). Key themes: witching sound, the Anthropocene, acoustic ecology, and feminist philosophy.

Teaching & Leadership: Teaches Cultural Studies, Critical Theory, and Songwriting across music programs. Supervises PhDs in soundscape ecology, voice studies, and gender theory. Chairs Falmouth’s Gender and Equality Working Group and contributes to EDI policy development.
Lab/Team Affiliations: Active in the Sonva research group and the Royal Musical Academy Popular Music Study Group.
