Professor Cédric Ghevaert is a Principal Investigator at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and holds a Professorship in Transfusion Medicine at the Department of Haematology, University of Cambridge. He also serves as a Consultant Haematologist for NHS Blood and Transplant.
Research Focus: The Ghevaert Group pioneers in vitro production of clinical-grade blood cells from human pluripotent stem cells. Their work combines transcription factor programming (GATA1, FLI1, TAL1), 3D biocompatible niche engineering, and bioreactor technology to advance transfusion medicine. Current clinical trials include the RESTORE trial (scheduled to complete in 2024) on manufactured red cell survival.
Research Collaborations: The group collaborates with NHS Blood and Transplant, University of Cambridge Clinical Research Facility, and Guy's Hospital Radiopharmacy. Their work has received funding from the Wellcome Trust, MRC, EU, UK Regenerative Medicine Platform, and NHS Blood and Transplant.
