Cynthia S McCarthy is an Associate Professor and Director of the Bioethics Certificate program at the University of Pittsburgh. She serves as an Ethics Facilitator for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and is a faculty member in Human Genetics, as well as Clinical and Translational Science. Her academic practice emphasizes ethics education for healthcare professionals, the public, and undergraduate students, focusing on patient-centered topics like Advance Directives, Informed Consent, and Confidentiality.

Currently, she researches the ethical use of medical chaperones in intimate exams, exploring patient and provider perceptions. She teaches courses such as PUBHLT 901 (Bioethics Certificate Capstone), PUBHLT 0140 (Public Health First Year Seminar), and PUBSRV 1305 (Health, Law, and Ethics).
