Cynthia Fuchs is a Professor and Director of the Film and Video Studies Program at George Mason University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. She serves on the Executive Committee for African and African American Studies and is affiliated with Sport and American Culture. Her career spans decades of work in antiracism and inclusion, notably as a member of CVPA's Antiracist and Inclusive Excellence Advisory Team and the Kritikos Antiracist Reading Group.

Her research explores intersections of film, media, and cultural studies, focusing on documentary analysis, gender/queer studies, war and media, and social media's impact. She has written extensively for PopMatters and other platforms, edited volumes on Iraq War Cultures and Spike Lee's work, and examines how cinema reflects societal structures through genres like sports documentaries, horror, and science fiction.
Notable awards include the 2020 United Bank Presidential Medal for Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion. Her film curation includes the Visiting Filmmakers Series, and she serves as a jurist for the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
