Dr. Amanda M. Caswell serves as an Associate Professor and Program Director of the CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program at George Mason University's School of Kinesiology. She directs the Sports Medicine Assessment Research and Testing (S.M.A.R.T.) Laboratory and has over 20 years of experience in athletic training education. Dr. Caswell is actively involved in the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) as a site visitor and previously served as president of the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association.
Dr. Caswell earned her PhD from Ohio University and has extensive clinical experience as a board-certified athletic trainer with 13 years of practice across rehabilitation clinics, secondary schools, and NCAA Division I and II institutions. Her educational background supports her dual expertise in both academic instruction and clinical practice.
Her research focuses on evidence-based approaches to recognizing, managing, and preventing injuries among youth and scholastic athletes. Dr. Caswell has led the innovative ACHIEVES Project, a collaboration between George Mason University and Prince William County Public Schools that serves as a national model for improving sport safety through educational interventions and injury surveillance. Her work examines concussion management, injury epidemiology in middle school athletics, and athletic training education pedagogy.
