Candace Lacayo

Candace Lacayo is an Associate Professor at George Mason University, affiliated with the School of Recreation, Health and Tourism and the Athletic Training Education Program. She serves as Director of the Office of Inclusive Excellence and supervises student clinical experiences.

• PhD in Physical Education with a Sports Medicine concentration (University of Virginia)
• M.S. in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (George Mason University)

Her research focuses on preparticipation physical examination requirements for secondary school athletes, with expertise in sports medicine, health promotion, and physical assessment. She teaches courses spanning first aid, medical terminology, cultural competence, and clinical techniques in athletic training.

Ms. Lacayo is involved in multiple campus affiliations, including the Sports Medicine Assessment Research and Testing (S.M.A.R.T.) Laboratory and the School of Kinesiology. She co-conducted a study on secondary school athlete health screenings, presented at the 2006 National Athletic Trainers Association Annual Meeting and Symposia.
