Cynthia A. Langham is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Communication Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy's College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences. She has been affiliated with the institution since 1984. Her expertise spans body language, non-verbal communication, interpersonal relationships, listening behavior, and small group dynamics.
Langham holds a B.A. in Speech and Dramatic Arts and an M.A. in Speech Communication and Rhetoric, both from Eastern Michigan University. She directs the department's internship program and teaches courses including Fundamentals of Speech, Interpersonal Communication, and Persuasion.
Her professional presentations focus on workplace listening and teacher-student classroom interaction. She has been featured in The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, and WJR radio. Notably, she received the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence Award.
Langham's research and teaching emphasize practical applications of communication theory, with a particular interest in bridging theoretical concepts with real-world scenarios in education and professional environments.
