Cyan Meeks is an Associate Professor and Chair of Filmmaking and Photography, known for her cross-disciplinary artistic practice integrating filmmaking, photography, sound design, performance, social practice, curation, and media study. Her work has been exhibited globally at venues like the Sundance Film Festival, MoMA’s New Directors/New Films Festival, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She has received prestigious awards from the American Film Institute, Amsterdam International Film Festival, and New York Film Festival, alongside grants from the National Park Service, The Nature Conservancy, and others.
Meeks holds a B.F.A. in New Media from the Kansas City Art Institute (1995), an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts (1997), and an M.F.A. in Media Studies from the State University of New York (2003). Her research and creative practice emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on media arts and social engagement.
Her commercial work in the music industry has garnered recognition from NME and Spin magazines. Cyan’s contributions span curatorial projects, experimental filmmaking, and innovative sound design, reflecting her commitment to pushing boundaries in contemporary media arts.
