Barry Cunliffe Barrington is a distinguished archaeologist and Emeritus Professor at the University of Oxford. He held the position of Professor of European Archaeology at Oxford from 1972 until his retirement in 2007, and previously served as a Professor at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on European archaeology, particularly the Celts and the first millennium BC to early first millennium AD. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Grahame Clark Medal (2004), Commander of the British Empire (1994), and Knight Bachelor (2006).
His academic contributions include leadership roles such as President of the Council for British Archaeology (1976–1979), Trustee of the British Museum, and Governor of the Museum of London. He also chairs committees like the Advisory Committee of The Discovery Programme (Ireland) and the Steering Committee for Internet Archaeology. His awards reflect his impact on archaeology, including Fellowships from the British Academy and the Society of Antiquaries of London, alongside honorary degrees and international recognition.
