Crystal Smith is a Teaching Professor in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences at West Virginia University's Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources & Design. She manages the horse unit at the JW Ruby Research Farm and leads the Equine Studies minor program.

Research interests focus on equine science, agricultural extension programs, youth horse education, and farm consultation. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications for horse owners and agricultural communities.
Professional experience includes serving as an Animal Science Extension Agent in Northwest Virginia, where she delivered nationally recognized equine educational programs, and developing Penn State's Equine Science Program curriculum.
She actively manages the horse unit at WVU's research farm and contributes to equine industry education through program development and farm consultations.
