Cristina C. Hendrix, DNS, GNP-BC, FNP, FAAN is an Associate Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing and serves as Chair of the Clinical Health Systems & Analytics Division. She is also a nurse investigator at the Geriatrics Research, Education, and Clinical Center at the Durham VA Medical Center and practices clinically as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Hendrix earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and a Post-Master's Gerontological Nurse Practitioner certification from Duke University School of Nursing.
Her research is centered on the older adult population, with a focus on developing evidence-based interventions to support family caregivers of chronically ill patients. Her current NIH-funded work investigates the effects of individualized, experiential training for family caregivers of cancer patients prior to hospital discharge. She has previously explored depression assessment in institutionalized elderly and Alzheimer’s caregiver training programs.
Dr. Hendrix holds several professional certifications and memberships, including the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (GNP-BC), and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). She is actively involved in professional societies such as Sigma Theta Tau, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Gerontological Society of America, and the Southern Nursing Research Society. She also serves as President-Elect of the Philippine Nurses Association of North Carolina.
