Cristiana Baloescu, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. She specializes in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and machine learning applications in emergency diagnostics. Her research focuses on advancing POCUS technology, particularly in resource-limited settings, and improving diagnostic accuracy through AI integration. Dr. Baloescu holds an MD from Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine (2013), a BA from Wesleyan College (2013), and an MPH from Yale School of Public Health (2022).
Her key research interests include lung and cardiac ultrasound innovations, automated B-line analysis for heart failure, and AI-driven diagnostic tools for non-experts. She co-leads studies on POCUS-guided nerve blocks and lung consolidation detection using generative AI. Her work emphasizes global health equity, aiming to expand ultrasound access in developing countries.
Recent publications highlight AI applications in cardiac ultrasound for cardiomyopathy detection, race-neutral clinical prediction scores for urolithiasis, and sedation risk factors post-articular lidocaine use. Dr. Baloescu also serves as an educator, mentoring medical students in POCUS research and emergency medicine training.
