Cristian Valdez is a Lecturer in Hispanic Linguistics and Specialized Translation at the UFR EILA (Études Interculturelles de Langues Appliquées) at Université de Paris. He is a member of the ALTAE research team (Approches Linguistiques Théoriques, Appliquées et Expérimentales) and associated with LIDILE (Linguistique, Ingénierie, Didactique des langues). Valdez serves as the program coordinator for the Licence LEA (Langues Étrangères Appliquées).
His educational background includes a Doctorate in Linguistics and Language Teaching through an international co-tutelle program between Université Rennes 2 (France) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), a Master's degree in Linguistics and Language Teaching from Université Rennes 2, and a 4-year Licence as a Spanish Language Teacher from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina.
Valdez's research focuses on three main areas: Hispanic Linguistics (attributive constructions, evidentiality, cognitive grammar, corpus linguistics), Corpus Translation Studies (neural machine translation, specialized Spanish-French translation), and Language Didactics (grammar teaching, declarative-procedural knowledge interaction, learner corpora). His recent work demonstrates a strong emphasis on the integration of artificial intelligence in language education, particularly in specialized contexts like healthcare Spanish.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on practical applications of translation technology in academic settings, with particular attention to post-editing projects that develop non-linguistic competencies. The research shows a clear trajectory toward examining how AI tools can be thoughtfully integrated into Spanish language classrooms, especially for specialized domains.
As an educator, Valdez teaches various translation courses across multiple programs including L2 LEA, L3 LEA, M1 LEA CTM, M1 TI ILTS, and M2 TI ILTS, covering specialized economic translation, Spanish translation, and translation technology. His teaching spans both semesters with courses ranging from undergraduate to master's level.
Valdez conducts his research within the ALTAE team (URP 3967) which focuses on theoretical, applied, and experimental linguistic approaches connecting languages and cultures. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical applications in translation and language teaching, particularly through corpus-based methodologies.
