Craig S. Markovitz is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship and has extensive experience in founding and scaling medical technology startups, including Blue Belt Technologies and Spotlight Medical, Inc.
- Education: MBA in Entrepreneurship from DePaul University, BA in Management from Washington and Jefferson College.
Research & Professional Focus: His work centers on entrepreneurship, innovation strategy, and commercialization processes, with a strong emphasis on medical device development and venture capital operations. He has been actively involved in teaching courses like Commercialization and Innovation: Strategy, Lean Entrepreneurship, and Designing and Leading a Business.
Scientific Awards:
- 2016 Carnegie Science Center Entrepreneur Award
- 2016 Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association Outstanding Entrepreneur Award
Professional Activities: Member of the Tepper School’s Program Coordination and Sponsorship Funding committee (2018–2020), and the Center for Medical Innovation (2015). He has taught 47 courses since 2018, including workshops on innovation and capstone projects in business leadership.
