Craig Regester is an Adjunct Lecturer and Associate Director of the Semester in Detroit (SID) Program at the University of Michigan's Residential College. He has been actively involved in Detroit community organizations since 1993, serving in roles at Save Our Sons And Daughters (SOSAD), Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (La Sed), Alternatives For Girls, and others, while also working as a consultant and grant writer for numerous local nonprofits.
- BA in Interdisciplinary Social Science from UM Residential College
- Masters of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University
Regester co-founded and administers the SID program, which immerses University of Michigan undergraduates in Detroit through academic study, residence, and internships. He teaches the Internship Reflection Seminar, leveraging his expertise in community-based education and urban development.
His work focuses on building equitable partnerships between academia and communities, emphasizing cultural resilience, labor organizing, and social justice. The program collaborates with over 50 Detroit-based organizations, including the Sugar Law Center and SEMCOSH, to foster reciprocal engagement.
Regester resides in Berkley, Michigan, but maintains strong ties to the Hubbard Farms neighborhood in Southwest Detroit, where his family lived from 1995 to 2013.
