Craig Ramey

Craig Ramey, Ph.D., is a Research Professor and Distinguished Research Scholar at Virginia Tech’s Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, with affiliations in the College of Science (Departments of Psychology and Neuroscience), College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (Department of Human Development), and School of Medicine (Department of Pediatrics). He holds a Ph.D. in Life Span Developmental Psychology from West Virginia University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley’s Human Development program.

His research focuses on how early experiences shape human development, particularly through large-scale interventions like the Abecedarian Project. Key areas include early childhood education, implementation science, and reducing health disparities. He has pioneered methods to translate research findings into scalable policies and clinical practices.

Awardees include the APA Fellow status and Society for Research in Child Development’s Public Policy Award. His work has been cited in over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with recent publications addressing long-term impacts of early education on social decision-making and sex-based disparities in intervention outcomes.

Ramey leads the C. Ramey Lab, which collaborates with institutions like the National Pediatric Rehabilitation Resource Center. His career includes roles at Georgetown University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and UNC-Chapel Hill, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to child health and education equity.
