Craig L. Hill serves as The Goodrich C. White Professor of Chemistry and Science at Emory University, a position he has held since 1996. His academic career spans over four decades with previous appointments including Professor and Chair at Emory University, and Assistant Professor at U.C. Berkeley.
Hill is internationally recognized as a foremost expert on transition-metal oxygen anion clusters (polyoxometalates or "POMs"). His research encompasses Synthetic, structural, catalytic, photocatalytic, and biological properties of polyoxometalates, Catalytic oxidation, Multi-functional catalytic nanostructures, and Green energy chemistry including catalytic water oxidation and CO2 reduction. His work has generated at least four subfields of POM science: catalysts for alkane functionalization, selective inhibitors of viral proteins, multifunctional nanostructures, and water oxidation catalysts.
Hill's research has established foundational knowledge in self-repairing catalysts, POM photochemistry, biological properties of clusters, and high-efficiency oxidation catalysts. His contributions extend to solar fuel chemistry and catalytic water oxidation.
Hill's scientific honors include:

Hill has significantly impacted chemical sciences research in Europe through co-advising PhD students in Germany and France, editing the New Journal of Chemistry for North America, serving on European journal editorial boards, and delivering short courses on catalysis and nanoscience. His leadership extends to chairing the Zing Conference on Solar Fuels (2010) and the US National Science Foundation Workshop in Inorganic Chemistry (2007-2009).
