Ellen Matson is the Marshall D. Gates, Jr. Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Rochester's School of Arts & Sciences. She holds a PhD from Purdue University (2013). Her research focuses on inorganic and materials chemistry, with an emphasis on energy storage solutions and sustainable fuel production. Key areas include the design of heterogeneous catalysts using metal-oxide metalloligands and the development of polyoxovanadate-alkoxide clusters for redox-flow batteries. Her work bridges molecular-level understanding of catalytic mechanisms and scalable energy storage technologies.
