Craig J. Newschaffer is the Raymond E. and Erin Stuart Schultz Dean of the College of Health and Human Development at Pennsylvania State University and holds the rank of Professor in Biobehavioral Health. Previously, he served as Professor of Public Health, Associate Dean for Research, and founding director of the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University. His research focuses on autism epidemiology, prenatal risk factors, and public health science. He has led major initiatives, including an NIH Autism Center of Excellence.
- Education: Inducted into the Johns Hopkins University Society of Scholars.
- Affiliations: Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology; member of IACC Strategic Plan for Autism Research expert group; past Vice President of the International Society for Autism Research.
His research interests include environmental and genetic influences on autism, epigenetic mechanisms, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Notable contributions include studies on prenatal air pollution exposure and DNA methylation, as well as longitudinal investigations into autism risk factors.
Key awards include the Drexel University Provost’s Award for Career Scholarly Achievement. His recent work explores maternal dietary patterns, antiseizure medication effects, and the role of socioeconomic factors in neurodevelopmental outcomes.
He has advised numerous grants and led collaborative projects, including the ECHO Cohort Consortium. His leadership extends to journal roles, such as past Associate Editor of Autism Research.
