Dr. Brian K. Lee is a Professor of Epidemiology at the Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University. He holds a PhD and MHS in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University, and an AB in Biological Anthropology from Harvard College. His research focuses on neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, particularly examining maternal medication use during pregnancy and its effects on child neurodevelopment. He leads the NIH-funded LEGENNDS study, exploring epidemiological and genetic links between neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. His work also emphasizes methodological advancements in causal inference, data mining, and machine learning applications in public health.
Education:
- PhD in Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins University
- MHS in Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins University
- AB in Biological Anthropology, Harvard College (cum laude)
Research Interests: Dr. Lee’s work spans epidemiological methods, maternal and child health, neurodevelopmental disorders, and mental/behavioral health. He investigates how environmental and pharmacological factors influence neurological outcomes, with a focus on autism, ADHD, and intellectual disability. His recent studies include analyzing antiseizure medication use during pregnancy, psychiatric comorbidities in epilepsy, and predictive modeling for adolescent psychopathology.
Grants & Leadership: As PI of the LEGENNDS study, he integrates genetic and epidemiological approaches to understand disorder interconnections. His research also explores bias amplification in pharmacoepidemiology and the societal impact of autism comorbidities.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates across institutions on large-scale datasets, including cohorts from the UK, Sweden, and Denmark, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
