Craig Calhoun is a University Professor of Social Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) and holds a visiting position as Stanley Kelley, Jr. Visiting Professor for Distinguished Teaching of Sociology at Princeton University. He has held leadership roles including President of the London School of Economics, Director of the Social Science Research Council, and President of the Berggruen Institute. His research spans comparative and historical sociology, social theory, and interdisciplinary studies in anthropology, communications, political science, and philosophy. Key areas include democracy’s degeneration, global futures, universities, and infrastructure. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and nine books, including Degenerations of Democracy (2022). His work emphasizes societal transformations, political economy, and institutional reform. Affiliations include the Melikian Center, Center for Work and Democracy, and Global Futures Laboratory at ASU.
