Craig A. Brice is a Professor of Practice in Mechanical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and serves as Director of the Additive Manufacturing Program and the Alliance for the Development of Additive Processing Technologies (ADAPT) consortium. He specializes in additive manufacturing (AM) across metals, ceramics, and polymers, with a focus on process control, alloy development, and qualification standards. His 20+ year career includes roles at Lockheed Martin and NASA, contributing to $20M+ DoD collaborative projects.
Education: BS in Metallurgical Engineering (Missouri S&T), MS in Materials Science (Ohio State), PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University of Canterbury).
Research emphasizes AM process feedback systems, material characterization, and workforce education. Recent work explores machine learning for material development, process modeling, and defect prediction in AM systems. He has authored over 25 technical publications and holds 13 patents.
Key contributions include advancing titanium alloy processing, electron beam AM techniques, and certification protocols for aerospace applications. Active in industry partnerships through ADAPT, focusing on translating AM innovations into practical manufacturing solutions.
