Courtney Mrazek is a Part-Time Professor of History at Saint Mary’s University (SMU), specializing in the social history of healthcare in 20th-century Canada. Her research focuses on public health, eugenics, institutional health systems, and the impact of settler colonialism on healthcare structures. She currently holds the W.P. Bell Postdoctoral Fellowship in Canadian Studies at Mount Allison University and serves as Vice President of Publicity for the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society, Event Coordinator for the Canada Region Anti-Eugenics Scholarship Hub, and English Book Review Editor for Scientia Canadensis.
Her research explores topics such as patient demographics in Atlantic Canadian sanatoria, rural Newfoundland and Labrador’s women-led health activism in the 1980s, and the intersection of healthcare with colonial policies. Recent publications include analyses of public health in early 20th-century Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Indigenous responses to British agricultural policies in 19th-century Nova Scotia.
