Courtney Luckhardt

Courtney Luckhardt is Associate Professor of History at the University of Southern Mississippi, specializing in medieval religious and cultural history. She received her Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Notre Dame (2011) and M.A.M.S. from the same institution (2005). Her research examines early medieval Europe (400-1000 AD) with focus on migration, religious travel, and cultural exchanges during the transformation of the Roman world.

Luckhardt's scholarly work investigates religious mobility, diplomatic relations, and cultural connectivity. Her book explores religious travel including voluntary pilgrimages and forced migrations of Christian slaves. Additional research analyzes tenth-century diplomacy between Byzantine emperors and Islamic caliphates. Publications appear in Medieval Worlds, Comitatus, and The History Teacher.

Her teaching covers Viking history, early/late medieval Europe, ancient/medieval women, and historical methods. Luckhardt is proficient in Latin, Old French, French, Spanish, and German, enabling research with primary sources across medieval European traditions.
