Courtney Brown is an Associate Professor of Voice and Acting at Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance (part of the College of the Arts). She specializes in embodied learning through her work with the LessacKinesensic Training method, focusing on voice, speech, and movement integration. She serves as President of the Lessac Training and Research Institute (LTRI) and is a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Team.

Her research and teaching emphasize a consent-forward approach to performance training. She has extensive acting credits with institutions like the Cleveland Playhouse and Oberlin Summer Theatre Festival. As a vocal/dialect coach, her work includes productions such as House of Blue Leaves and Bonny and Clyde. She has directed plays at Kent State, including Emilie: La Marquise du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight and The Hunchback of Seville.
Brown has taught internationally at institutions like the Gaiety School of Acting and National Theatre School of Ireland, and trained with the SITI Company in NYC. She actively presents at conferences like the Annual Lessac Conference and SETC.
