Cosimino MALITESTA

Cosimino MALITESTA serves as a Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Salento within the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies, School of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences. His office is located in the Multi-story Building CSEEM A6 on the university campus in Lecce-Monteroni.

Professor MALITESTA specializes in multiple advanced areas of analytical chemistry including chemical and biosensors, nanomaterials analysis, surface chemistry (XPS), bioanalytical chemistry, cultural heritage analysis, molecular imprinting technology, and environmental matrix analysis. His research particularly focuses on electrochemical biosensors with machine learning applications, electrosynthesized polymers, molecular imprinting polymerization techniques, and analytical methods for micro/nanoplastics in environmental samples.

With over 180 peer-reviewed publications, Professor MALITESTA has established significant scientific collaborations with universities across the USA, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. His editorial contributions include serving as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry section), Reviewer Panel for RSC Advances, and membership on the International Advisory Board for Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry.

Professor MALITESTA actively supervises numerous students across undergraduate and master's programs in Environmental Sciences and Technologies. He has held significant administrative roles including Chairman of Environmental Sciences degree programs (2008-2018) and Vice Dean of the School of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (2012-2017). His laboratory work focuses on developing innovative analytical methodologies for environmental monitoring and cultural heritage preservation.
