Cory Hunter holds dual appointments as the James P. Wilmot Distinguished Assistant Professor of Music in the Arthur Satz Department of Music and Assistant Professor of Musicology at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He specializes in African American popular music, particularly Black gospel music, with a focus on 'Spiritual Realness'—the ways Black gospel artists construct authenticity through music and discourse. His interdisciplinary research intersects musicology, ethnomusicology, media studies, ritual theory, gender studies, and religious studies.
