Cortino Sukotjo is a Visiting Professor and Chair in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He holds a DDS from Padjadjaran University (Indonesia), a PhD from UCLA School of Dentistry, and advanced degrees in Prosthodontics and Medical Education from Harvard and the University of Illinois Chicago. His research focuses on dental education innovation (e.g., AI chatbots, VR/AR), materials science (e.g., corrosion-tribocorrosion, nanotechnology), and clinical prosthodontics.
Dr. Sukotjo has authored/co-authored ~200 publications and mentored over 150 students. Notable works include evaluating AI chatbots’ validity in patient education (2025) and developing predictive models for dental student performance. He leads initiatives to integrate technology into dental curricula and improve implant education through AI tools.
Research Trends: His recent studies emphasize AI’s role in clinical communication (e.g., chatbots for prosthodontic FAQs) and material durability (e.g., tribocorrosion prediction). He also explores VR for surgical training and antimicrobial implant coatings.
- Awards:
- Fellow, American College of Prosthodontics
- President, ADEA-Prosthodontics Section
- William J. Geis Foundation Education Fellow
- Advising: Over 150 mentees across predoctoral, residency, and faculty levels.
As Chair, he envisions a department prioritizing innovation in education and technology to advance oral healthcare. His lab focuses on AI-driven patient education tools and material science for implant longevity.
