Dr. Corri Levine is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in the Department of Internal Medicine - Division of Infectious Diseases, and holds an adjunct appointment in the Global Health Center for Tropical Diseases. She is the Associate Director of the Special Pathogens Excellence in Clinical Treatment, Readiness, and Education program (SPECTRE) and Director of the Biorepository for Severe Emerging Infections (BSEI). Her research focuses on high-consequence infectious diseases such as Ebola, Lassa, and Nipah viruses, with an emphasis on strengthening healthcare preparedness and public awareness of emerging threats. Dr. Levine also chairs the Basic and Translational State of the Science Workgroup for the National Special Pathogens Research Network (SPRN) and serves as a subject matter expert for the National Emerging and Special Pathogens Treatment and Education Center (NETEC).
Education: Dr. Levine earned a PhD in Human Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine from UTMB (2021), an MPH in Epidemiology from UTMB (2021), and an MS in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University (2016). Earlier degrees include a BS in Animal Science from the University of California, Riverside (1995).
Research Interests: Her work spans viral pathogenesis, clinical treatment protocols for special pathogens, biosafety infrastructure (e.g., biocontainment units), and pandemic preparedness. She has contributed to studies on SARS-CoV-2 immunopathology, antiviral therapies, and regulatory challenges in healthcare settings.
Grants: Current projects include a 2024–2027 study on clinical specimens for product development (funded by BioFire Defense) and a 2024–2025 initiative on National Ebola Training and Education (funded by Emory University).
Labs/Teams: Leads the BSEI biorepository and collaborates with the SPECTRE program, SPRN, and NETEC to advance clinical and research responses to emerging infectious diseases.
