معرفی
Dr. Cornelia Lohwasser is a Researcher at the Department of Prehistory and Early History, Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, where she has led the Altencelle City Ruins project since 2012. Previously, she served as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Medieval and Modern Archaeology (2009-2010) following her scientific traineeship at Bamberg City Museums (2004-2006).
Her academic credentials include:
- Master of Arts in Medieval and Modern Archaeology from Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg (2002), focusing on "Wooden finds from the Mühlberg Ensemble/Kempten"
- Doctorate (2010) on "The Early Medieval Cemetery of Pfakofen"
Lohwasser's research spans medieval ceramics, early medieval burials, river archaeology, and Islamic/Pre-Columbian studies, with particular emphasis on Bavarian and Allgäu regions. Her work integrates material evidence from urban ruins, river systems, and religious sites to reconstruct cultural transitions during medieval Europe's formative periods, often revealing how environmental contexts shaped societal practices.
Her publication record (2005-2012) demonstrates consistent focus on material culture analysis, especially wooden artifacts from building ensembles and riverine contexts. Notable contributions include reinterpreting Reformation-era iconoclasm through archaeological evidence and reconstructing medieval castle settlements through stratigraphic analysis, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches bridging archaeology, history, and anthropology.
She actively contributes to public scholarship through exhibition curation, including "Rearview Mirror – Archaeology of Everyday Life in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times" (2006) and the Bamberg Cathedral millennium exhibition (2012), making archaeological findings accessible to broader audiences while advancing methodological standards in the field.
