Prof. Dr. Corinna Dawid is a Professor of Functional Phytometabolomics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), holding positions as Deputy Director of the ZIEL Institute for Food and Health and the Bavarian Center for Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry (BayBioMS). She leads the Chair of Food Chemistry and Molecular Sensory Science, focusing on plant stress responses and their impact on food quality. Her academic career includes a PhD from TUM, postdoctoral work, and habilitation on stress-induced metabolome alterations. She has pioneered the use of 'Sensomics' for flavor and bioactive compound analysis in crops.
Education:
- Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in Food Chemistry, TUM (2012)
- Postdoctoral Research and Habilitation (2016–2022)
- Studies in Food Chemistry, University of Münster (2001–2005)
Research Interests:
Her work integrates metabolomics, sensory science, and plant biology to optimize crop quality under stress. Key projects include studying stress-induced metabolites in carrots, licorice, and potatoes, and developing methods to mitigate off-flavors in plant-based proteins. She also explores symbiotic relationships (e.g., arbuscular mycorrhiza) and their role in enhancing plant resilience and nutritional value.
Articles Trends:
Recent publications highlight metabolomics-driven discovery of bioactive compounds, immune-metabolism interactions (e.g., methylglyoxal in T-cell paralysis), and application of Sensomics in flavor profiling of plant-based foods. Her work bridges fundamental plant biology with applied food science.
Awards:
- 2019: Wissenschaftspreis Weihenstephan for plant immunity research
- 2013: DGQ Award for Young Scientists
Grants & Labs:
- DFG Collaborative Research Center SFB924 (Molecular Mechanisms in Plant Yield)
- Leading projects on plant microbiota (SPP2125 DECRyPT)
- Member of Proteins4Singapore (National Research Foundation Singapore)
Labs/Teams:
Her lab focuses on Phytometabolomics, Plant Stress & Flavor, and Functional Bioactives. Collaborations include Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and Singapore’s TUMCreate. The team uses advanced mass spectrometry and NMR techniques for metabolite profiling.
