Corey R. Fehnel

Corey R. Fehnel, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Division Chief of Neurocritical Care and Hospital Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). He is affiliated with the Hebrew SeniorLife Marcus Institute for Aging Research, focusing on the intersection of aging, critical care neurology, and palliative care.

• Education: Completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at Brown University under Dr. Vincent Mor, a leading health services researcher.

His research utilizes nationwide Medicare datasets to analyze outcomes in older adults with critical neurological illnesses, emphasizing health services research, aging, and palliative care. Key projects include studying hospital readmissions post-stroke, long-term care after decompressive hemicraniectomy, and ICU symptom management in palliative settings.

Recent publications (2023-2025) span topics such as alcohol withdrawal protocols in neurocritical care, mechanical ventilation withdrawal in palliative care, and post-vaccine neurological complications. His work is funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the American Academy of Neurology/American Brain Foundation.
