Corey Owen is an Associate Professor in the Ron and Jane Graham School of Professional Development at the University of Saskatchewan, part of the College of Engineering. His expertise spans rhetoric of science and technology, medieval literature, and pedagogical innovation. Owen holds a PhD in English (Dalhousie, 2007), with additional degrees from Dalhousie, University of Saskatchewan, and Concordia University College of Alberta. His research explores intersections between rhetoric, virtue, and scientific identity, including studies on science documentaries, Old English poetry, and medieval virtue ethics.
Research projects include analyzing scientific identity in documentaries, revising electronic editions of Old English texts like The Seafarer, and investigating virtue concepts in medieval literature. His work also focuses on engineering education, assessing how communication training shapes professional identity. Teaching spans courses in professional communication, classical mythology, and medieval literature.
Publications highlight rhetorical analysis of media, medieval texts, and educational practices. Collaborations include studies on engineering student identity formation with Debora Rolfes and Julie Hunchak. His work bridges humanities and STEM education through interdisciplinary approaches to communication and virtue-based pedagogy.
Key projects include the electronic edition of The Seafarer and investigations into virtue ethics in Pearl-Poet works. His research demonstrates a commitment to both traditional literary studies and modern applications of rhetorical theory in education and media analysis.
