Corentin Visée is a geographer and PhD candidate at UNamur (University of Namur), specializing in environmental change and data modeling with R. He tutors undergraduate students while pursuing his doctoral studies under the supervision of Sabine Henry and Sébastien Dujardin.
Visée completed his Master's degree in Geography at UCLouvain before beginning his PhD research. His academic journey reflects a strong foundation in geographical sciences with a focus on quantitative methods and spatial analysis.
His research primarily focuses on population mapping in Senegal, utilizing data-driven modeling techniques to understand population distribution patterns and their temporal changes. This work has significant implications for urban planning, resource allocation, and public health, contributing to sustainable development in the region. Visée actively engages in fieldwork, collecting first-hand data and collaborating with local communities, which complements his computational approaches. He is particularly interested in how environmental factors, especially water-related variables, influence human settlement patterns and migration dynamics.
Visée's recent publications demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary approach, bridging geography, public health, and data science. His work spans topics from population density modeling in rural Senegal to analyzing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on sensitive health issues like female genital mutilation in Nigeria. He frequently employs spatial analysis and statistical modeling techniques, with a growing focus on malaria incidence mapping and demographic variables interpolation.
As an advocate for open science, Visée actively shares code snippets and collaborates with colleagues to foster a supportive research community. His commitment to knowledge sharing embodies his desire to advance geographic science collectively. He has participated in numerous conferences and workshops, including the Belgian Geographer's Day and the Environmental and Climate Mobilities Network events, where he has presented his research on migration patterns and population distribution in Senegal.
Currently, Visée leads a research project titled "Changement des conditions hydrologiques au Sénégal : quelles implications pour la répartition mensuelle de la population et les migrations à court terme?" (2021-2027), investigating how changing hydrological conditions in Senegal affect monthly population distribution and short-term migration patterns.
