Constance L. Shehan is a Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at the University of Florida. She has held significant administrative roles, including Director of the Women’s Studies Program, Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Chair of the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law. She has also served as President of the UF Chapter of the United Faculty of Florida and Chair of the Beta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

- Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Family Issues
- Extensive service on editorial boards for major family sociology journals
Her research focuses on gender stratification in global contexts, gendered embodiment, and feminist perspectives on families. She has contributed to understanding reproductive justice, social inequalities, and the intersection of work and family dynamics. Her recent publications include interdisciplinary guides on social class, industrialization, and transgender experiences.
Dr. Shehan has received numerous awards for teaching and mentoring, including the Ernest Groves Award for Excellence in Teaching about Families and the UF Graduate School’s Award for Doctoral Dissertation Mentoring. She has also chaired the Graduate School’s Teaching Award Committee and mentored graduate students extensively.
