Constance Chapple is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Oklahoma’s Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona (1999) and has prior faculty experience at the University of Nebraska and the University of Cincinnati. Her research focuses on criminological theory, child abuse/neglect, gender differences in crime, and the consequences of incarceration on families. She serves on the editorial board of *Violence and Victims* and has published in journals like *Justice Quarterly* and *Social Science Research*.
Her work examines intersections between family dynamics, criminal behavior, and policy implications. Key themes include adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), self-control development, and trauma-informed approaches in criminal justice. She has also explored gender disparities in delinquency, peer influence on deviance, and the mental health impacts of commercial sex exploitation.
Dr. Chapple emphasizes methodological rigor and applied research to address societal issues. Her recent studies highlight housing instability’s role in post-release offending and the mediating effects of health conditions on cannabis use. She advocates for evidence-based interventions targeting vulnerable populations, including children of incarcerated parents and victims of neglect.
